Those who need a helping hand to finance their next business event can now knock on Tourisme Laval’s door. The regional tourism association has been entrusted with the management of the new Business Tourism Development Fund (FDTA), launched today by the Government of Quebec.

The FDTA has a budget of $ 2.5 million. “To help us manage this envelope aimed at supporting the revival of business tourism, I wanted to work with an organization that has strong expertise in the field. In my eyes, Tourisme Laval fully met this criterion, ”said the Minister of Tourism, Caroline Proulx, in an interview with Deals, in order to justify his choice.

Throughout the fund allocation process, the Laval association will be supported by a steering committee made up of representatives of the tourism industry and its ministry, she continues.

All business event organizers in the province, such as for-profit and non-profit organizations and legally constituted cooperatives in Quebec can benefit from the FDTA. This list includes the Indigenous communities, organizations and nations recognized by the National Assembly, adds Caroline Proulx.

The types of events supported are congresses, trade exhibitions and company meetings – such as training and strategic development sessions – scheduled before December 31, 2022. It should be noted that social events, including the most important galas. Team building activities, including Christmas parties, are not eligible.

To benefit from the FDTA, business gatherings must generate costs of at least $ 50,000 and generate a minimum of 40 nights in commercial accommodation establishments in Quebec, details the Minister. Each request will be subject to an evaluation grid, the criteria of which include, among other things, the responsible and sustainable nature of the activity.

The funding of the requesting organizations must correspond to at least 20% of the total costs of the event.
