The Mintrop-Kiez site community and the Mintropolis association have developed a new idea to revitalize the squares in the vicinity of the train station and to promote the quality of life. Together with the AWO Zentrum Plus on Mintropstrasse and the Düsseldorf Choral Association, the “Choir Walk” series starts on Wednesday (16 August).
The Choir Walk
On different dates, one choir will hold its open-air rehearsal at Mintropplatz and Stresemannplatz instead of in the usual rehearsal room. There is singing at both stations for about 25 minutes each. Several choirs support the project and one choir rehearses each evening. The choir strength varies between 6 to 30 people.
The DIVA choir (Düsseldorfer Impro Voices Association) will organize the first date. The seven singers harmonize well-known melodies and invent new melodic patterns that are repeated on an ad hoc basis. Their art of improvisation makes every performance unique. The choirmaster is Barbara Beckmann. Cordial invitation to all interested, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 7 p.m to come to the start of the series at Mintropplatz.
Another appointment is already available Monday, August 21 from about 7 p.m with the Soulville Jazzsingers. The choir was founded in 2004 by Barbara Beckmann and aims to go beyond the usual. With improvisations, original arrangements and surprises, hits, jazz and pop songs are presented in a polyphonic, profound and joyful way.
Am Friday September 1st will be around 7pm the Hilden Choir Community with choir director Dörte Högner sing à cappella.
„Musenkuss im Table Dance“
In addition, Mintropolis and the Mintrop-Kiez site community organize the “Musenkuss im Table Dance” event. A report on the event in March can be found here.
On August 31 there is at 19:20 (Admission 7 p.m.) the next edition in the Table Dance Bar “Tropical Nights”, Mintropstraße 26. The duo “Savoir Vivre” with Klaus Klaas (piano) and Noémi Schröder (vocals, melodica) presents German and French chansons. Admission is free, until 9 p.m. there are reduced drink prices (regular after that).
