A YTN project series that looks at the current state of our economy and its future direction.
For two days in a row, we looked at what was causing difficulties for our economy.
Today I thought about alternatives or solutions.
First, reporter Park Hong-gu reported on ways to revitalize exports.

Semiconductors led trade growth, exporting more than $10 billion for 17 consecutive months until September last year.
However, after the coronavirus pandemic, exports began to decline due to a decrease in global IT demand, and in January of this year, they recorded -45% compared to the previous year, and the slump is still continuing.
This is because the Chinese economy, which accounts for half of semiconductor exports, is not reviving, and even exports to the United States are decreasing significantly.
Exports of memory, a key product, to the United States were calculated to have recorded -62% from January to July of this year compared to the previous year.
It has decreased significantly compared to its competitors, Taiwan and China.

The Bank of Korea also pointed out that the demand for Korea’s semiconductor exports is concentrated in specific fields, with 44% smartphones and 21% data center servers.
In comparison, automobiles are continuing to do well, achieving positive exports for 14 consecutive months from July of last year to last month.
Although our market share is only 1.2% in China, the world’s largest market, we were successful in diversifying our export markets to countries such as Canada and Australia and jumping into the development of electric vehicles first.
Automobile exports have recently been expanding to Southeast Asia, including Indonesia and Thailand, and India.
However, while automobiles are consumer goods and can be exported to all countries in the world if there is demand, semiconductors are intermediate goods, so they have the limitation of being exported only to a few countries with developed IT industries.
Therefore, it is pointed out that in order for semiconductor exports to respond quickly to external market changes, it is necessary to move away from focusing on memory and develop system semiconductors and foster packaging technology.
It appears that government policy support should also be focused here.
This is Park Hong-gu of YTN.
