Revisiting the Disappearance of Annie McCarrick, the Girlfriend of My Brother, After 30 Years.

Annie McCarrick, an American woman who went missing in 1993 while living in Ireland, remains one of the unsolved mysteries about a number of missing women during the 1990s. McCarrick was the girlfriend of the author’s late brother, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2017. Their vinyl collection, which was likely stored in the attic of their family home in Lucan, was rediscovered in 2021. The author remembers McCarrick as a beautiful and vibrant young woman who loved the poetry of Yeats and Heaney. McCarrick had studied at Maynooth University in Ireland, where she had met the author’s brother. After their relationship ended, they remained friends, and the author’s brother had presented himself to the police to see if he could help in any way after McCarrick went missing. The author’s siblings and parents also have fond memories of McCarrick, recalling her thoughtfulness and artistic nature. Thirty years later, McCarrick’s vinyl collection and the memories of her kindness and warmth are the only physical remnants of her time in their lives.
