For the complete relaunch of the app under the project title “Customer Journey 2.0”, Ratingen Marketing GmbH received state funding of around 147,000 euros. Together with a scientific project partner, the Institute for Research and Trade Cologne (IFH), RMG managing director Nina Bauer submitted the project as part of the funding program “Think digital and stationary retail together” of the NRW Ministry for Economy, Innovation, Digitization and Energy.

The RatingenApp has been bundling numerous interesting and useful information and services from and about Ratingen since its introduction four years ago. The users get an overview of retail, catering and service providers in the city, are supplied with local news, they can find out about free parking spaces, bus and train connections and (e-) filling stations, the app serves as a guide through the city administration, they contains an event and waste calendar – and a lot more.

App with new functions

The app has been given four new functions as part of the fresh cell treatment. “The new digital solutions support our retail stores and bars in the city and the districts,” says Mayor Klaus Pesch. “These businesses are extremely important for a lively city center and therefore deserve broad support. After the council resolutions on the city’s Corona relief measures, the RatingenApp is also being upgraded at the right time. “

RMG explains the four new functions of the RatingenApp:

  1. The new chat function „Just ask!“ offers users the opportunity to get in direct contact with retailers, service providers and restaurateurs in Ratingen, for example to order items, reserve them in restaurants or make an appointment with the hairdresser.
  2. The popular Ratinger shopping voucher “DumeklemmerCard” has been modernized and can now be topped up up to an amount of 200 euros. When purchasing the voucher card, the customer will in future also receive a suitable, occasion-related gift envelope. Four motifs are available. The gift recipient can then use the voucher as a regular means of payment and redeem it in partial amounts accurate to the cent in many shops throughout Ratingen. To do this, the recipient carries his classic gift card or the voucher as a QR code in the Ratingen app. A list of the partner companies from which the voucher can be both purchased and redeemed can be found on the newly designed website www.ratingen-entdecke.de and in the RatingenApp itself.
  3. With the new Treuekarte „RatingenCard“ the customer will in future be rewarded for their purchases in Ratingen by receiving bonus points. With these loyalty points (one point collected corresponds to a monetary value of one cent), the customer can pay for one of his next purchases at partner companies or offset the monetary value against his parking fees RatingenApp. The RatingenCard can be applied for free of charge from all participating partner companies. A list of partner companies can be found at www.ratingen-entdecke.de and in the RatingenApp.
  4. With Parking + Visitors to Ratingen city center can now park and pay without contact and cashless in the city car parks – either by offsetting them against the RatingenCard points they have collected or by direct debit. Parking + can be requested from Ratingen Marketing GmbH.

If you have already installed the app on your mobile phone, you will receive an automatic update if the setting is appropriate.

“I am convinced that with these four new functions we can strengthen the local Ratinger retail business by extending the length of time customers stay in the city and creating additional incentives to visit and buy,” says RMG managing director Nina Bauer. My special thanks go not only to my team, but also to the sponsors of Sparkasse HRV, Stadtwerke Ratingen GmbH, rapeedo and Ratinger Bades as well as all partners and service providers who have supported us in the implementation of the project over the past two years.

As part of a third and final project phase, “Customer Journey 2.0” will be scientifically evaluated by the IFH Cologne. Dr. Markus Preißner, the scientific director, expects two things from this: “The sustainable success of the funding project can be ensured and the transferability of the project to other cities can be derived.”

The accompanying website has also been completely redesigned www.ratingen-entdecken.de.
