Early this morning, the first evaluation of the remake of the cult horror film Resident Evil 4 was embargoed. Fans were understandably curious whether, after the controversial remake of the three, it would be possible to follow up on the success of the two, and Capcom certainly did not disappoint them. The review does not spare superlatives.
- Resident Evil 4 has a really high rating on Metacritic
- It will probably be one of the best rated games of the year
In our review, we also found practically only words of praise. But how does it look abroad? Well, just as excited, maybe even more excited. In the list of verdicts, we find a whole range of absolute ratings, which is definitely not the norm. The aggregated score on the Metacritic website remains extremely high 93 points on PC and PlayStation 5, or slightly more moderate 91 points on the Xbox Series. So far, Resident Evil 4 ranks among the best-rated games of recent years and finds a place in the historical ranking as well.
“Exceeded expectations in every way and represents Capcom’s best work yet on the series. Normally, I’d still find time to nit-pick about some minor annoyance or flawed section, but I just don’t think games can get much better than this.” muses Eric Switzer of TheGamer.
“Resident Evil 4 Remake is unrelentingly the most thrilling adventure in the series, reworked, enhanced and fully exploited to its enormous potential,” Tristan Ogilvie agrees with him z IGN.
“Nearly 20 years later, Resident Evil 4 is the same masterpiece it was in 2005. Capcom has faithfully remade a true classic, bringing it into the modern age and equipping it with new content, amazing combat and impressive visuals. What it takes from history alone was enough for Resident Evil 4 to be considered one of the best games of all time, but now it deserves that title even in 2023 thanks to better environments and fantastic action. This is Resident Evil at its absolute best; an absolutely excellent experience that will live on for a long time in the hearts of longtime fans and at the same time win over a whole new generation of supporters.” does not spare Liam Croft of PushSquare superlatives.
Is there any criticism at all? Out of a total of roughly a hundred published and indexed reviews, only four fall within the yellow average. More critical reviews point out that the game is not very innovative as a remake, or that, on the contrary, the soul of the original title from 2005 has disappeared from it.
Remake Resident Evil 4 is released on March 24th.
