Reviewing the On Cloudstratus 3: Highly Cushioned Road Running Shoes for Long-Distance Jogging

Fitz > Gear > Actual test On Cloudstratus 3 | Highly cushioned road running shoes suitable for long-distance jogging

The author has never chosen to use Cloudstratus because I thought it was similar to Cloudmonster. After getting used to Cloudmonster, I have three pairs of Cloudmonster but not one pair of Cloudstratus.

When Cloudstratus launches the third generation, I always have to give it a try and find that it feels completely different from Cloudmonster.

Cloudstratus was On’s best-selling shoe before Cloudmonster was launched. It was also positioned as a cushioning style for long-distance running. But Cloudstratus is more about jogging, so in different parts, the design is more stable than Cloudmonster.

Cloudstratus is On’s first pair of shoes with double-layer cloud tec. The more cloud tec, the stronger the cushioning function of the shoe.

The upper is made of functional large-hole mesh, and the material is strong and highly breathable.

The shoelaces are designed with external shoe holes, making it easier to tighten the shoelaces.

The external eyelet component (orange) is connected to the sole inside the upper. Tightening the laces can lock the midfoot and enhance the stability of the arch position.

There is cotton as a spacer on the tongue, so that it will not be stressed when worn for a long time.

The toe last has ample space (wider than CloudMonster), and even if the soles of the feet swell due to congestion due to long-distance running, they will not be too tight.

The hardened TPU (black) at the heel and thick cotton (white bumps) at the collar are expected to allow the user’s heel to touch the ground while jogging.

The speedboard embedded in the midsole of the shoe is a rubber plate, which helps to some extent in propulsion. However, the workmanship of the sole is different from that of the second-generation hollow shoe. The sole is sealed so that the speedboard cannot be seen to reduce the chance of inclusions. The Cloudstratus outsole has (orange) rubber in the more common contact areas.

During my trip to Nagoya, I always used Cloudstratus as my walking shoes because they require long-term cushioning and sometimes need to carry weight (as shown in the picture).

The multiple 60-minute Easy Runs during the trip were used as shoe trials. The longest one was a 16k run next to Lake Suwa.

Due to the high density of the midsole material, it is hard, and the cushioning is caused by the hollow cloud mold. So even when jogging, with your whole body weight on your feet, the cushioning is not as soft as stepping on shit. But when the body weight falls to a certain point, it is supportive, which makes the feet feel better.

There are many brands of running shoes with high cushioning, such as NB’s 1080/ More and Asics’ Nimbus. Although they can provide high cushioning to reduce injuries to runners due to impact, they also have the same suction effect as running on the beach. , more energy is needed to lift the foot.
Cloudstratus is similar to adidas Boston, Puma Forever Run, and Asics Kayano, which has both cushioning and support effects.

There’s no such thing as bad or not bad, it’s just about how much foot feel the runner needs when running.
