Review: Trust GXT 255+ Onyx

At NWTV we often review gadgets that are of course also useful to us outside of work, but with the Trust GXT 255+ Onyx we tested something that we can also operate very well as a website. With our weekly podcast there is always a need for good audio quality and the question is whether this microphone can really provide it?

Of course, the quality of the recording is the most important aspect of a microphone. Since we have our own podcast at NWTV, that is a great platform to test it with. Especially because we record the podcast with two hosts and so you immediately have a comparison. Not only by the way, but also through the listeners. Both we and the listeners can clearly hear the difference. The Trust GXT 255+ Onyx delivers a top-quality recording and it sounds, even if you’re just sitting in your game room, as if you are working with professional equipment.

Connecting is also simple. No extra software is needed when you connect it to your computer and you can actually control everything on the microphone itself, including the volume and even mute it if you want. That makes it nice and simple to use. The microphone also has a colored ring that can change color. By default, it’s green for when it’s on and red for when it’s muted. Nice of course for when you record on camera, but also practical for when you forget that you have turned off the sound of the microphone.

The only thing we struggled with in the beginning with the Trust GXT 255+ Onyx is the arm it sits in. On the one hand, a really beautiful accessory. It looks very sleek, ensures that the cable is neatly hidden and also offers two USB connections to connect your headset, for example. On the other hand, it’s not always smooth, although it got better the more we used the arm.

The question is, of course, whether the Trust GXT 255+ Onyx is also worth its price? It costs about 200 euros, which is quite expensive for a microphone. For a cheaper price you can choose from many other microphones, the quality of which we do not know in many cases. If you have a little more money, then it is at least worth considering taking it.

The Trust GXT 255+ Onyx may be a bit on the expensive side, but it is a microphone that you know what you’re getting: strong audio, a sleek appearance and also easy control and connection. This device is therefore really of added value when you go gaming, streaming or podcasting.
