REVIEW: The step of the Kryštof group, which did not succeed so well

But this time it seemed to bother her. She decided to move, change the sound a bit and make the lyrics clearer. The result is the album Halywůd, a collection of moods, especially fresh songs, whose primary goal is to dance and entertain, less to draw into the story, as Kryštof did in the past.

The change in the news could, of course, be anything. That the band decided to be more inspired by the pop of the eighties and early nineties is probably the result of its vigorous move towards greater singing in recent years. Having pop from the time of its worldwide rush as inspiration is a good choice. But it is important to distinguish between the world and ours. Unfortunately, Kryštof clung more to ours, which led to his new record lagging behind the previous ones in several respects.

The songs on the Halywůd album are first-line, without surprises (if we do not count the total change in sound) and have a number of clichés in the lyrics. Among them there will be distinctive and at future concerts of the group certainly well functioning, especially Champions, also the title Halywůd, Right Now (Come be the headlight) or the ballad Do nebe se propadám, which probably most closely builds on previous work.

But there are also songs among them that would not necessarily be on the album, because they do not have the necessary song appeal. This mainly concerns the tandem What will happen then and I will buy the whole universe.

A special chapter in the Ostrava dialect is sung by the funny Milan Baroš and Vánoční, a duet with Karel Gott. The first was to remain a one-time greeting to the popular Czech football player and should not be included on the series album, because the text is at the level of birthday poems written by factory workers. The duet with Karl Gott has already experienced its stellar moments, so it’s just a bonus on the record. However, his authorial quality must be appreciated.

After many songs that the band’s singer Richard Krajčo has already written or participated in as a performer, there are passages on the album that can evoke some of the past. For example, the song Hvězdáři, a duet with the Slovak singer Sima Martausová, recalls in the refrain The Way, which Tomáš Klus sang with Krajč and the band Kryštof years ago. In the song What’s Next, there are stages to be heard again that will remind you of the song So Come Find the Shore.

In the lyrics, Krajčo withdrew from poetry and clung to uncomplicatedness. He thus got rid of the songs of one typical character of the band, which does not benefit the whole. Years ago, it would have been hard to think that one would hear him sing the phrase “Let’s burn it down during the day, bury the bass, let the house fall quietly, flood the neighbors” (Vohul bass), “I want to live as I want, walk to stars… ”(I want to live) or“ Even when I was a little boy, Cupid entrusted me with arrows, also a bow… ”(I will buy the whole universe).

He also pulls the wrong accent in the songs What will happen, where the chorus sings “Take off your clothes, I’ll take off my tailcoat, grab your hand and we’ll disappear into the clouds”, or in the Champions, where we hear “When it’s coming around and they knock on our door. ”

Halywůd is an album that is bold in its intention, it has a corresponding sound in the mood of the songs, and the band definitely decided to play it in the big halls and it looked appropriately pompous. However, the strength of the Kryštof group is in what they did before.
