Review: Sequent SuperCharger2 HR – NWTV

Smartwatches are now available in all shapes and sizes, with or without a touchscreen. You have to charge most of these wristwatches at the end of the day to be able to use them properly. The Sequent brand has come up with a solution for this. Their Sequent SuperCharger2 HR is a classic watch with smart functions and it charges itself by moving your wrist during daily life. They have started a Kickstarter for their latest model, the Sequent Elektron. To get a good idea of how the smartwatch with self-charging function works, we got the Sequent SuperCharger2 HR for review. Read our findings here.

The watch is not a smartwatch with a touchscreen, but a ‘simple’ watch that keeps track of data in all kinds of ways. For example, it keeps track of how many steps you have taken, what your heart rate is and there are more functions that you do not see at first glance. The accompanying app is therefore a must, otherwise you can do little with that data. In this app you keep track of your goals per day, how many sports moments you would like to achieve per week and what your heart rate is. You also get information about calories burned and the distance you have covered. There is also a sleep mode, so you can learn more about your sleep rhythm. This way you can keep a lot of biometric data about your daily life.

In addition to the standard hands, the watch also has a large meter on which you can see several things. In normal mode you will see the percentage of your preset goal of the number of steps there. There are also figures, but they do not fit this purpose. That’s a bit confusing, especially in the first few days of use, but we soon get used to it. As soon as you press the button on the side twice, you will see the battery status in percentages. During this time, you can sync the watch with your phone to transfer data. If you press the button four times, the watch immediately carries out a heart rate measurement. You can also activate the sport mode by holding the button for longer.

U.S Sequent SuperCharger2 HRcopy is a beautifully designed device with sapphire crystal and a sleek aluminum design with straps made from recycled plastic bottles. Feeling the dynamo sometimes feels a bit uncomfortable, but in the end this doesn’t bother you. It’s great not to have to charge a smartwatch for a few days, so you don’t have to think about it. Because you only sync with the app when you want to, it also saves your phone’s battery.

It is a pity that the synchronization itself does not run smoothly. Once we try to sync, we have to reconnect every time. This is done with a double press of the button, but the fact that it has to be done every time is unfortunate. We also regularly receive the message that a connection cannot be made because the sport mode is on, while it is not on. This makes synchronization quite difficult. Fortunately, once connected, viewing data is very easy.

Make sure that you do not connect the device to your phone for more than 24 hours. It happened occasionally that the watch no longer made contact and had to be completely reset in order to be used again. This is a very disturbing factor that fortunately only rarely occurred. But when it happened, we sometimes couldn’t use the watch for a day because you needed the charger, which we didn’t always have on hand, as the watch charges itself.

From Sequent SuperCharger2 HR itself is a great device that is hampered by software glitches in the app and sometimes some syncing issues. The classic and helpful watch full of options is a nice addition for the lover of insight into own biometric data. It’s a shame that the app doesn’t run completely smoothly, so syncing takes more time than necessary. It can also sporadically happen that the watch does nothing at all, this may also be a software bug. Nevertheless, it is a nice device for general use.
