Monitors are of course available in different models and there seem to be more and more. If you’re looking for a new monitor, the range is so large that you don’t really know what best suits your needs. For example, the avid gamers have different requirements than someone who uses it in the office. The range is also very large for gamers and there are many different manufacturers and models available. The Samsung Odyssey G7 is an example of this. This gaming monitor has some nice features and you can read what we thought of it in this review.
We got to work with the Samsung Odyssey G7 and then the 27-inch version. When unpacking, we find the curved screen together with some accessories such as the height-adjustable support. There is also a loose foot in a v-shape that is quite large in relation to the screen. Furthermore, there are the necessary cables and a fairly large power adapter. With a few simple actions, the screen will be on your desk in no time and ready for use. Samsung has made the most recently used connections available. There is one HDMI port and two DisplayPort connections. There is also a USB hub for enthusiasts.

Once you have an image, you will immediately notice that the screen has quite a curvature. This means that you have to get used to it, especially if you are used to a “normal” screen. The Odyssey G7 has a curvature of 1000R, something you hardly see. Most curved screens have a curvature of 1800R or 1500R, so that is quite a curvature and can even make it disturbing when using the internet or watching a movie. When playing a game it is hardly noticeable and you are much less bothered by it. The maximum resolution of the Odyssey G7 is 2560×1440 pixels, which is a fairly normal resolution these days. Today, gamers are looking much more at the refresh rate. Most fun game monitors have a refresh rate of 144Hz, but this model from Samsung even has 240Hz. There are as yet few monitors with this much hertz.

This 240Hz is active for DisplayPort users for both AMD and Nvidia, provided the video card also supports it. If you use HDMI, you will have to settle for a maximum of 144Hz with an AMD graphics card. The Nvidia chip can handle the 240Hz. The Samsung Odyssey G7 also has some useful features especially for gamers. Think of G-Sync/FreeSync with which everything should run very smoothly without stuttering, tearing or lag. This also seems to be fine since the image looks razor-sharp and we did not suffer from stuttering, uneven image or other influential problems during testing that you do not want to encounter during an intensive game of gaming. The color composition and quality of the image is also perfectly fine, so that all colors come into their own. Unfortunately, the Samsung Odyssey G7 is not a cheap monitor. For the suggested retail price of €574, it is even a fairly expensive monitor. You will get a curved model in return with support for 240Hz, which is certainly worth the money for the real gamer.
