Review of the Stralsund crime thriller “Kaltes Blut”: Baltic Sea atmosphere well captured

Stralsund. The plot: Russians, who are somewhat tacky in their unscrupulousness, want to illegally obtain components for weapons from Stralsund. The local manufacturers are under a lot of pressure. A family member is shot and a wife is kidnapped, even though it was supposed to be fake. Basically everything goes wrong at first and then somehow it goes off the rails. Current topic, mild build-up of tension, harmless show-down.

The actors: Alexander Held portrays the investigator Karl Hidde as grumpy and withdrawn. This means that gestures and looks, but also loud sentences, gain more weight. His strongest moment is an interrogation in which the image is bathed in black and only his face is visible. Nice trick. Overall it remains a bit pale, but that doesn’t matter. Because the main actress Sophie Pfennigstorf (Jule Zabek), who once again confidently takes the helm here, also largely acts as aloof. She takes in a bit of the nightlife, takes on a parallel investigator from the BKA, hunts down a violent criminal in a prefabricated building and manages to impress at every moment with her objective toughness. She carries the film, it’s not difficult for her.

The partner from the other day opens the door

The biggest task: Not everyone can credibly play a double game as a pregnant kidnap victim in a cellar with a terrible wound on her face. Patricia Ivanauskas as Irina Viet mostly does, even if she could have come out with more intensity.

The entertainment factor: medium high. In the age of exaggerated US productions for streaming providers, it’s good to see reality as a cinematic approach again. Curious moment: While hunting the criminal, the investigator duo stands in front of an apartment door. An acquaintance from the “Tanzschuppen” opens up. Investigator Zabek later justifies herself: “It’s Stralsund.”

Conclusion: A material that is not always comprehensible down to the last detail is told through in an effortless manner. In terms of atmosphere, the coastal cold is well captured. The crime series takes its viewers seriously. Hence the top odds – again and again.
