Haliphron ANATOMY OF DARKNESS

Death Metal, Listenable/Edel (9 Songs / VÖ: 25.10.)

Haliphron ANATOMY OF DARKNESS

The Dutch formation Haliphron stormed onto the scene with enthusiasm in the spring of 2023 – and has apparently come to stay: just a year and a half after their debut, which is worth listening to, the already well-known scene is already releasing their second album. ANATOMY OF DARKNESS remains true to the original style of the quintet (still supported by the keyboard player who was previously a permanent member of the line-up), moves in the dominantly orchestrated symphonic death metal area and also lives from the nasty bellowing vocals of Marloes Voskuil (ex-Izegrim). Dark but epic-epochal atmosphere is emphasized during the almost 40 minutes introduced by an intro and culminates in ‘Buried Truth’, in which oriental songs can be heard alongside a spoken backdrop, as well as ‘Double Or Nothing’, which is accentuated with opera singing.

In the final title track, a speaker can be heard instead of singing. The group mostly manages to skillfully juggle the multitude of elements and present some strong songs (such as ‘Silent Escape’, ‘Black Star’, ‘Epitome Of Perfection’). The target group for this always somewhat artificial-sounding music may be pointed, but fans of epic, extreme bombast metal à la Septicflesh, Cradle Of Filth or Dimmu Borgir should definitely have Haliphron on their radar.
