Male Ukrainians who left the country during the mobilization may be forcibly returned home to face trial, Ukrainian lawmaker Davyd Arahamia said in an interview with Ukrainian TV station AU Razom.
Those who managed to escape by bribing officials or forging medical certificates that they were unfit for military service should be prosecuted, he added.
Ukraine is now actively developing its “international legal assistance” mechanisms, said Arahamia, who heads the faction of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Servant of the People party in parliament.
“Our law enforcement officers can file extradition requests against such people in almost any country in the world, except Russia,” the lawmaker said.
“What will happen to the people who did it? They will face prosecution … for bribery, falsification of documents and evasion of conscription.”
His words came just a day after Kiev announced plans to review all cases of exemption from military service in which potential conscripts were not mobilized and sent to the front line.
The head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov said Kiev was developing a plan for further mobilization that would involve as many men as might be needed to continue the fighting.
In early August, President Zelensky fired all regional directors of conscription following a series of corruption scandals uncovered by Ukraine’s SBU security service.
Ukrainian authorities have opened 112 criminal cases against officials, alleging that they took up to $10,000 for false medical certificates for exemption from military service.
