Review of electricity trade under bilateral contracts on the UEB for April 22-28

The full version of the electricity market review is published in ExPro Electricity Weekly

3.1 million MWh were sold on the platform of the Ukrainian Energy Exchange during the week. The largest share in the auction was taken by the national nuclear company “Energoatom” – 40%, and in second place was the private generation company DTEK – 37%.

Also, 5 auctions for the purchase of electric energy were held at UEB, at which only 5 thousand MWh were sold at an average price of UAH 4,995/MWh.

“Energoatom” started the implementation of base load electricity for May. At the first auction, 1,600 MW of base load was sold, the average sale price was UAH 3,304/MWh, which is 17% less than the starting price. Also, NAEK announced and held an additional auction for 200 MW of base load, with a release period for the first 15 days of May. The average price at the second auction was UAH 3,426/MWh. The auction was announced already after the bidding for the whole of May, which made it difficult to forecast the volume of sales for market participants.

Generating companies “DTEK Energo” held an auction for the sale of the resource for the next month. “DTEK Kurakhivska TPP” no longer participates in bidding on UEB. In total, DTEK’s generation realized 1.48 million MWh (against 2.7 million MWh in April). Significant damage to the TPP caused a sharp reduction in electricity production. The average price at auctions is UAH 2,825/MWh, and the cost of the base load is UAH 2,999-3,133/MWh.

“Guaranteed buyer” held two auctions for the sale of resources for May. At the first auction, 113.5 thousand MWh were sold for the first decade of the month at an average price of UAH 1,821/MWh. At the second auction, 58,400 MWh were sold at an average price of UAH 2,063/MWh. The greatest demand was recorded for the product with release for 8-19 hours on all days – the price increased by 34% compared to the starting price, as well as for the product with release for 9-14 hours on working days – the price increased by 28%. Next week, the state enterprise announced two more auctions: the first one offers 252,000 MWh for the next two decades of May, the second one offers 109,500 MWh with release on working days for May 13-31.

“Ukrhydroenergo” held 3 auctions and all were with a resource offer for May. Only one auction of the company was successful – the company contracted 20 MW of base load for the first decade of the month, and the price was UAH 3,301/MWh, which is 8.3% less than the starting price.

“Donbasenergo” held an auction for the sale of resources for May. Traditionally, the company implemented 250 MW of base load, and the price was UAH 3,305/MWh.
