Review: New Czech TV series Hunter – News

Jiří Strach once again plays with the mystery with elements of horror. This is his favorite genre and it certainly does better than the classic Docent detective stories. It can create a gloomy and scary atmosphere, tension as to how the story will develop further.

The actors he put in the series, and not only in the main characters, help this well. Pavel Kříž plays contemporary exorcist Tomáš Lang fighting demons under the banner of a secret order. He already appeared in the second series of Strach Docenta, which was broadcast on public television at the end of the summer. There he was a representative of evil, but in the Hunter he fights with him. His character in The Hunter will definitely evolve. Until now, he is a man of few words, secretive and sad.

On behalf of the secret order, Jiří Dvořák, who is one of Strach’s court actors, talks to him and executes him. The main female character is the insurance company inspector Alice Černá (Jana Kolesárová), who has personal experience with demons in the series. She came into contact with them as a little girl when her mother died under mysterious circumstances. And a terrifying nightmare suggests that the demon may not be far from her.

In each of the eight episodes of The Hunter, one criminal case is solved, but this time the police are not in the center of attention. The hunter played by Pavel Kříž is supernatural and saves the world on his shoulders.

Jiří Strach filmed another mystery crime series, a fairy tale for adults. Its mysterious atmosphere is also helped by the Czech and Slovak scenery in which the story takes place, and the choice of actors who were keen to immerse themselves in their characters.

Perhaps in the Hunter series, as well as in children’s fairy tales, good will ultimately triumph over evil.
