REVIEW: Måneskin “Teatro d’ira – Vol. I ”- Music

It has been a few weeks since the sensational victory of the Italian rock band Måneskin’s song “Zitti e buoni” in the international Eurovision Song Contest, but the talks around these 20-22 year old Italian young people are still unabated.

Måneskin’s music has also sparked interest in this wave of popularity, with Zitti e buoni in the top ten of the most popular music streaming platform, Spotify, but in total, the song has topped the 29 national charts and 13 of them, including also in Latvia. This song with the first number is also included in the band’s second studio album “Teatro d’ira – Vol. I”, which has won platinum status after winning Eurovision. The album was released in March and contains a total of eight songs in Måneskin’s typical alternative rock and glemrock style. If its first place in the top of native Italy, second in Norway and the Netherlands, and fourth in Sweden could be explained by the Eurovision wave, then 71st place in the United Kingdom is a significant achievement today.

The band Måneskin has existed since 2015 and has been formed by four friends from high school: vocalist Damjano David, guitarist Thomas Raja, bassist Victoria De Angelelis and drummer Etan Torchio. This group has successfully participated in the local “Factor X” (2017) and even sensationally won the Sanremo festival, thus automatically qualifying for Eurovision. So far, Måneskin has had one studio album, Il ballo della vita, released in 2018, but it is clear that on the current wave, these Italians will definitely go much further. And if anyone is tormented by the reflection on where Måneskin’s music has been heard before, one can bury ones in the chambers of memory among the Italian-called sources of their influence – Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Franz Ferdinand ”,“ Nirvana ”,“ Radiohead ”, David Bowie and“ Fleetwood Mac ”, both of which will be in the Italian repertoire.

THROUGH. Although “Teatro d’ira – Vol. I” (or “Theater Of Wrath”) was put on the player with great skepticism, it turns out that “Måneskin” is not just one hit band, and the album is surprisingly connected. Apart from “Zitti e buoni”, you can definitely recommend listening to the energetic “Lividi sui gomiti” (this is No. 1 in general!), “I Wanna Be Your Slave” (a good solo party) and “In nome del Padre” even something from reproduction), maybe “For Your Love”. Raji shows himself very well throughout the album, of course, David’s sharp timbre as a razor voice also forgives his handwriting.

PRICE. However, the Italian language is not friendly with rock music – listening to the beginning of the song “La paura del buio”, for example, it seems that Al Bano and Romina Pauere will start singing immediately, or at least “Ricchi e Poveri”… “Måneskin” does not have to try to claim high metal art – Ballads such as ‘Coraline’ and ‘Vent’anni’ are hardly fascinating.
