Almost everyone is afraid of something or someone. Much of the population fears or feels uncomfortable around spiders, also known as arachnophobia. For this group, publisher tinyBuild has the perfect way to respond, namely the game Kill It With Fire. You can read all about it in this review.
As the title says, the game is exactly what people with a fear of spiders would do: destroy them with fire. Perhaps a bit of an exaggeration, but luckily the game offers a safe environment to do this. Obviously this is not immediately possible, in the first level you will have to make do with everyday objects such as a clipboard. The levels take place in all kinds of locations such as a house or a supermarket and there are often different rooms where the spiders are hidden between objects that at first glance seem innocent. Even if you are not afraid of spiders it can still be very intense, because every time a spider appears the music becomes more and more intense. In addition, the spiders are also small, fast and some do not die as quickly as expected. This is the perfect recipe for a game full of arachnophobia, but it does make for hilarious situations.
As you progress, more and more new weapons and resources will be unlocked. Some are very creative, such as the ninja stars that make it very difficult to hit the spiders. Others are especially effective like a shotgun or a bottle of deodorant with a lighter. The latter ensures that you literally kill the animals with fire, but also the environment flies on fire. Incidentally, this has no consequences, after a while the fire goes out magically. The environment in which you play is also highly interactive, almost any object can be picked up, inspected and thrown away. It is therefore unavoidable that in the end complete chaos and disorder reigns.
Kill It With Fire does not offer a lot of depth, but that is also not something that can be expected for a price of € 12.49. There is plenty of entertainment for a few hours in a variety of environments and with a choice of different weapons. It can also feel monotonous after a while, so the length is fine. The only thing we would like to see in the future is the option to switch between other insects. There would be plenty of other insects that many people would be happy to exterminate, such as wasps, mosquitoes, flies, centipedes and cockroaches. Despite this, the current game already has quite a therapeutic effect for those who would rather get rid of spiders than be rich.
