It is even difficult to imagine how and whether it is more appropriate for musicians to announce their latest works at the moment, if basically everyone’s thoughts are with the Ukrainians, but it has been created that they should be released at some point.
Here is Katrīna Dimanta’s debut solo album with 11 songs, including the ever-heard single “Pipars” . The album appeared on digital streaming services last Monday, when Katrīna visited LTV “Morning Panorama” early in the morning and admitted that due to the tragic events in Ukraine, the release of the album had been postponed for a third year, but friends here and in Ukraine , at least in the meantime, to shift their thoughts to something else ”.
The idea for the album dates back to January 2017, when Katrīna wrote the song “Where We Talk Lovingly” while performing in Australia.
“The album is eclectic and reveals the different ways I sing, play and create music. Pop, folks, country, rap – everyone will be able to find at least one song in the album, which will be a musical surprise! ” promises the musician, calling his proposed style in the already mentioned “Morning Panorama” “Katrīna’s mix”. Some of the songs have already been performed in concerts and have gained the recognition of the listeners, but there are also two songs on the album that the listeners have not heard yet. “I want the songs to resonate with people,” says Katrīna, who is happy to be able to test the longevity of the songs in concerts before recording in the studio.
Katrīna herself is the author of the lyrics, however, she has also used the lyrics of Latvian folk songs, but the lyrics of the song “Continue” are borrowed from Ojārs Vācietis. “Latvian folk music is such a huge heritage, which in fact we use very little nowadays. Therefore, I am glad that I have the opportunity to breathe new life into these songs, ”says the musician. In the album, Katrīna used the talent of her multi-instrumentalist (especially she is known as the ukulele guru) and played with musicians such as Laima Dimanta, Rolandas Zelčs, Gints Garuts, Kristaps Strodas, Matīss Uškāns, Jānis Eglīte, Reinis Brigis, Edgars Rakovs (Mārtiņš Gailītis).
BY. Catherine’s voice can tear the roof down, and literally – her microphones, speakers and other sound-amplifying equipment seem to be a luxury. Diamond’s biggest trump card is folk songs, in the field of which she feels like a fish in the water (or in a bent meadow), but the most pleasant surprise for the viewer was “White Snow Road Aisle” and “My Voice” – strong, compelling and memorable pop songs from the same niche. the sympathetic “Sun sets in the distance.” Another surprise is “Coffee” with its pink guitar sound and Katrina’s attractive singing – who would have thought that she could do it too! Among the national melodies, first of all, “Where do we talk sweetly” stands out, while in green balls, the people will probably enjoy dancing to the “Country My Great Sorrow” held in a slightly country style. Of course, “Pepper” has not lost its stickiness either, this optimistic song is still not tired and probably can’t get bored. To sum up – it’s good, maybe even very good.
PRICE. As a single album, this “Katrīna mistrojums” does not hold together completely and absolutely at all, so the question is how many people will listen to almost every song in a different style and find it interesting, and it will be a pleasant surprise, and how many will fall on their nerves. Although the author of these lines subjectively matched nerves Katrīna’s vocalization in strings of inexpressible syllables – of course, the typical “la-la-la” etc. for Latvians as well. is not a masterpiece, but Diamond’s “tiri piri”, “dio-po-pei”, etc., utjpr. can be a simple craze.
