Love blooms at any age and anywhere.
Screenwriter and director Martin Horský, who, in addition to the commercially successful film Women in the Run (2019), also collaborated on successful films Crack Woman’s Neck (2016), Life is life (2015) or Love is Love (2012), came up with another romantic comedy.
The new pensioner Josef is looking forward to finally fulfilling his lifelong dream and becoming a street clown. Thanks to that, they will get to know the Maruška café, with whom they will find mutual affection. After an unexpected finding, his daughter Anička moves back to her family villa with her son Honzík. Her stubborn attitude towards men is gradually broken by her very first love, which is a neighbor, Pavel. Little Honzík again experiences his first platonic love in kindergarten. When Uncle Karel picks him up from there once, he looks at his teacher Eliška. When they walk together, their bassets fall in love.

Josef’s role is written directly on the body of Bolek Polívka. In addition, he played with his son for the first time in a project in which their characters portray the same family relationship they actually have. Vladimir Polivka he handled the difficult character of the disabled Karel really unexpectedly well. A Slovak actress stands next to him in the role of Eliška Kristína Svarinská. Maruška is playing Eliška Balzerová, the qualities of which do not even need to be discussed.
Jana Pidrmanová introduces herself as Anička, and Matouš Ruml next to her (it remains an unsolved mystery why his figure is wearing stylish jeans during all the ordinary work in the garden). Petr Vaněk, for example, will also appear in supporting roles, Veronika Khek Kubarova, Hynek Cermak, Marek Taclik, Jaroslava Kretschmerová, Pavla Tomicová or Jaromír Nosek.
However, compared to previous actions, this is missing one fundamental thing, and that is a strong common denominator. And the fact that all the central heroes are members of the same family is simply not enough. At least it would take some more collective running for a purpose. Or Ondřej Vetchý, who is perfect in everything (especially as Agent 007). In this way, basically only the individual romantic lines intertwine. Although they produce the desired effect on a selected section of the audience, they are desperately predictable and too naive. Dolls who want life-stricken skeptics are likely to spin dolls.
The main goal of the film is to instill in the audience pleasant feelings while watching in a generally difficult time. Nice jokes are quite good, but you will soon forget about them. The most amusing character is definitely Honzík, who from his point of view comments on relationships and adult lives. And those few darker clouds in a similar heart attack, a clumsy dog owner, an unfaithful friend and husband, the decision between love and a stay with his daughter abroad, will soon be easily blown away by the story. Surprisingly, almost no attention is paid to the problems of wheelchair users, even though it is clearly offered. Although, with a few apt remarks, the creators at least try to contribute to their destigmatization.
The film Heart on the Palm offers kind humor and a few simple romantic plots. To make it a real sure bet, he will come out with a whole arsenal of famous actors. It all actually works and the average Czech viewer will probably really get his money’s worth, because he will rest with an adorable and unpretentious work. It’s just a pity that all the parameters are tailor-made for him. The film purposefully avoids unpleasant topics, people can easily resolve all conflicts between them and the whole world is flooded with sun.
And it ended like a fairy tale! Because the audience wanted it that way.
