REVIEW: Emilija “Augustā” – nra.lv

With a surprisingly ambitious and active advertising campaign (LTV “Morning Panorama”, Radio SWH morning program, etc.) yesterday the debut work of the young singer and songwriter Emilija came out.

Starting with the singles “Augustā” and “Bites”, Emīlija has reached the mini-album or EP with five compositions.

“Emily’s music is a sophisticated, nuanced poison pop with a mind-blowing melody and beautifully painful lyricism,” says her young singer at her PR camp, and it really is. The author of the song music and lyrics is Emilija Jermola herself.

Project manager Agnese Rozniece (exRakovska) together with her “Zvaigznājs” team attracted creative support – musicians Pēteris Lundis, Kristaps Ērglis and Chris Noah, Elizabete Džeina Rubene and Artūrs Strautiņš were involved in creating the visual image. “At the age of 17, Emilija has already grown amazingly and independently in her music, but like all artists, regardless of their age, Emilija needs support to get things to their destination. This debut recording gives a very good idea of Emilia’s characteristic musical stylistics, which is primarily contained in her voice and also in the musician’s own conviction about how her music should sound, ”says Agnese about her defendant.

THROUGH. Emilija’s seemingly so simple song and her equally simple music have something elusive and nuanced, suggestive, which can not even be caught listening to. For example, even the title song “Augusta”: at first it seems like an addictive and a bit annoying piece, but after a while you catch yourself again and again returning to the radio station’s rotating list to remember who it was about the singer performing this sticky piece. The same can be said about Mikēlis Putniņš, recorded together with the leader of the avant-pop group “Ezeri”, in “Atspulga” – a very beautiful song. In turn, in the song “Bites” Emilija manifests herself in all her vocal splendor – impressive voice talents, she also sings convincingly. We will hear a lot more about this girl – at least it should be.

PRICE. Listening to this EP does not leave the feeling that something stylistically similar has already been heard in Latvia, which is probably the case – indipop has already become a fashion thing with us. It will be difficult for Emilia to break out, if only the friendly shoulder of the powerful patroness Agnese will help.
