Review: Crysis Remasterd – Nintendo Switch – This is what an adaptation is all about

For many years, the phrase to say if a computer was good enough could be summed up as: Does Crysis Run? For many, the game of Crytek It was the ‘measurement to know if a PC Gaming equipment was good or not. Today it is time to see if this portent was well transferred to the Nintendo Switch why it is not about whether the hybrid console can run this title, rather it is about whether the game is well ‘ported’.

You see, one of the things that amazes me about the Nintendo Switch is how the development studios go to such lengths to bring a game from over 10 years ago to a console that may not be running properly. What was removed, adjusted or changed? Crysis Remastered is a new example that we must touch at this time.

Now Crysis is about 13 years old and was designed to exploit the PC of that time and, failing that, take advantage of new hardware. Just to give you an idea, on the Steam page we see that the recommended requirements to run this Crytek game are an Intel Core 2 DUO processor at 2.2 GHZ, 2 GB of RAM and a GeForce 8800 GTS / 640 video card . It would be absurd to think that the Nintendo Switch cannot run the game.

Crysis Remastered achieve full running on the Nintendo console? Do you have to go looking for this title? Time to find out.

Not that it looks good or bad, Crysis is already years old

It seems not, but Crysis already has a good time on the market, its history was the traditional cliche of the Americans are the good ones and the combat system was attractive thanks to the theme of the suit.

This game mechanics provides action and strategy and we cannot deny that, at the time, it was an attractive proposal for fans of the FPS proposals of the time.

If you try to play this game again, you will feel that it already feels obsolete because the looks, the way of running, the physics of the characters and the intelligence of the enemies are much more advanced than in those days.

The limitations are already felt and we are talking about a remaster, not a remake where the game is made from scratch and adjustments are made to the overall experience.

The case of Crysis Remastered is that, it is a game that did not age as well in the system factor or game mechanics, there are a lot of much better proposals that you surely already played, so there is no point in going into idle comparisons.

What is a reality is that bringing this to the Nintendo Switch has its joke and, of course, you have to pay attention to everything they achieved.

There are many cuts here and there

Let’s go to the aesthetic section of Crysis Remastered on Nintendo Switch; The game, on paper, doesn’t look bad, but it’s a bit far from comparing to its PC counterpart. What do i mean Basically to the subject of the textures, the geometry of the objects and, if you rush me, the change in the design of some characters.

The Crysis Remastered version of the Nintendo Switch compares much more to the Xbox 360 and PS3 edition, which brings some flaws in the visual presentation; lack of lights, detail on the floors and adjustments here and there so that the game works on each platform.

It is even worth emphasizing that this mission is not, if it appeared on PC, which is not so discouraging when you understand the size of the title.

Now, as I said, ‘for each other’; It has been 13 years since Crysis came out on PC and that means that technology has advanced and there are already new lighting techniques. What did not look so good before, now feels more natural – of course, with its limitations. Where there was no half-day shadow, now there is and all of this works fully on Nintendo Switch.

Come on, the overall quality of the remaster is good, it shows that they thought it perfectly so that the Nintendo Switch could show a little of that old Crysis magic.

Long live destruction!

Crysis at the time, had the characteristic of blowing everything in its path. Sure, back then it seemed like one more detail to make it attractive, but it was part of the game mechanics because there wasn’t a 100% solid object that wasn’t destroyed or punctured by a flurry of bullets.

On Nintendo Switch, Crysis Remastered has those characteristics, but with their respective limitations. The collapses don’t look as spectacular because you seem to be destroying pieces of buildings as if they were toys instead of a cabin or a house. The mechanics are there, but, it is not so well executed.

On the other hand, it is worth applauding that there is a clear advance in the presentation of the objects. The Crysis Remastered edition of the Nintendo Switch struggles to not have so much ‘pop up’ or appearance of objects from nothing, even the sea looks much better here than on PC thanks to the clear advances in objects with DirectX.

We almost have 30 frames per second in Crysis Remastered for Nintendo Switch

Is it possible to play Crysis Remastered on Nintendo Switch? Of course! Sure, it’s not perfect, but it’s considerably better than the tease that turned out to be The Outer Worlds port. With dynamic 720p resolution, this Crytek game sits at an almost stable 30fps. Demanding something more is idle because it is a very specific version of a game of 13 years ago on a console with certain limitations.

Here it is noticeable when a game is brought to the Nintendo Switch conscientiously, since, for every sacrifice, there is a positive result that will make you feel good while you play.

Crysis Remastered

Of course, there are moments that the Nintendo console cannot reproduce well, like an explosion with heavy objects, but, it is not important, it is not like you cannot continue playing or the game breaks.

With all this in mind, we must come to the most basic question of all regarding this remaster by Crytek …

Should you buy Crysis Remastered for Nintendo Switch?

Well, it’s a remarkable achievement that Crysis Remastered runs on the Nintendo Switch with so few processing cores (3) in both dock mode and laptop. Something that surprised me a lot is that it was a game that demanded the hybrid console.

On the other hand, the game in its mechanics feels a little old, so you must be a fan of the last generation of science fiction shooters since this is far from being Battlefield or Call of Duty. The exoskeleton is an important part of making the title feel attractive and different, and that has a lot of value.

Crysis Remastered

In terms of appearance it is a good thing, but it is far from reaching the PC version and is more or less on par with or above PS3 and Xbox 360.

It remains to be seen what Crysis Remastered looks like on PS4 and Xbox One, however, we are talking about consoles that should have no problem running it and there will always be that ‘false appeal’ of being able to take it everywhere.

The price is quite attractive, not to say affordable and if you want to relive the experience, go ahead, you will not regret it. Give him that opportunity you were looking for so much.
