REVIEW: Chips and Dullais “Bravo!” – Music

Chipsis and Dullais have presented their second full-length studio album to the audience of the new wave hit group (that’s what they are announcing themselves).

The group will also celebrate its 15th anniversary. “Bravo!” a collection of ten songs composed over eight years. It includes both compositions that have been performed in concerts before and brand new compositions. The recording was made in Valmiera, at the Hodila Records studio, under the direction of Ģirts Laumanis or Lomikas and the long-term producer of the group Kārlis Butins. “We are very happy with the sound of the album, we have managed to capture the moment!” Says the charismatic duo about the album.

If a bit from the group’s CV, then “Chipsis and Dullais” in 2012 released the studio album “PS I love you”, regularly performs in Latvian clubs and festivals, as well as in 2016 received the “Alternative.lv” annual award as “Alternative group” . In 2019, the group also made the first video for the song “Don’t Throw a Heart”, which uses footage from Alice Zariņa’s film “Next”. Favorite songs by fans such as “Tears” and “When a Girl Grieves” on Youtube have gathered more than 200,000 listeners. Every.

BY. If Latvian balloons listen to something like “Little Prince”, then it is better to recommend “Chips and Dullo” – at least the original material. Exaggerated seriousness accompanied by two acoustic guitars with humorous lyrics, which are mostly about love sung in a good vocal duo – it’s “Chips and Dullais”. What are the songs about? About a guy who was unexpectedly invited to a girl’s house covered with carpets and parquet, but he is ashamed to take off his shoes, because he will look through the socks; for unhappy love flourishing in the office; for a broken heart like a broken clock, etc. “Your songs sound to each other, but I still make two to eat” (from the song “2ata”) – this is the average message. The most compelling song is “The Moon,” in which even the synthesizer seems to appear the only one: “That’s how the chick came out / one naked in my bed” – harsh, right? Also worth noting is the anthem “For you, not for you”, which is reminiscent of the national “Oh, come my mind”.

PRICE. Uniformity – in both music and themes. Humor, on the other hand, is already a matter of taste.
