The Audi A6 Avant TFSIe was one of the most interesting tests I’ve had the opportunity to do in recent months, in what was a van that I found strange at first, but over the days, as I tried to push it to the limit, it started to take root.
This Audi A6, with a Plug-In engine, is a perfect compromise between the combustion world and the electric world, offering a good purely electric range (~60Km), while offering absolutely incredible performance, in what it is a vehicle that shouldn’t feel so sporty, and so clinging to the road. I was pleasantly surprised.
(Rehearsal) Audi A6 Avant Plug-In: What a van!
So, as part of this van’s upgrades, Audi has equipped the A6 Avant TFSIe with a higher-capacity hybrid system, which of course means 60 kilometers of purely electric range.
In addition to savings, this also means high levels of performance (299hp combined), and incredible dynamism, thanks to the electric motor’s performance in any start-up, or situation in which you find it necessary to need more “power”.
But what really surprises is not the power, or the autonomy, it’s the safety! It is the control that this van puts in our hands in any and all situations. Incredible, because the Audi A6 Avant weighs 2 tons!
However, here we must point out that to have all this control, and power, it is necessary to keep the battery charged. Like any Plug-In car, the thing only works if you charge it before use. If you run out of battery, you can say goodbye to 299hp, 6s from 0 to 100 km/h, etc… ).
However, as we said above, despite its weight, the Audi A6 Avant offers absolutely incredible dynamism, which owes much to the system quattrocapable of offering you a whole new level of safety when you enter a curve, even at exaggerated speed.
To complement the entire system, we have the electrical component capable of putting 450nm on the ground, with the help of the S-Tronic automatic transmission (DSG), which of course means a lot of power, but still, always with great comfort.
In fact, comfort is the brand image of this van throughout the test. Whether you go at 90km/h or 250km/h, it’s comfortable, and you don’t hear anything coming from outside.
Space and Construction Quality
In the field of space, in such a large van, it is not a problem at all. However, as we have to make room for the battery and electric motor, there are some differences compared to the combustion versions, such as the disappearance of space for the spare tire in the trunk, and of course, the reduction of its space.
Still, the build quality is absolutely incredible, and very much in Audi’s image. It’s a van that you can fill up like an egg, and travel without any problem, because the entire population is comfortable.
Conclusion
All in all, the Audi A6 Avant is an incredible van, which impressed me to the point of no end! All thanks to the marvel of engineering that is the Volkswagen Group’s hybrid motorization, implemented here in the “Audi way”.
