The fight for the 2022 World Cup between Argentina tonight we will play against France. Even superstitious Argentines are reluctant to take risks. Obsessive soccer fans cling to their unique ritual for the Argentina national team to win.
Reported AFP extension, Sunday (12/18/2022), many residents wore dresses from back to front, holding photos of Diego Maradona or stamps depicting saints. Even a grandmother sits in the same chair. They do it because they believe she can bring good luck to the national team Argentina.
One of them was performed by 55-year-old Julio Tresto, a resident of Flores in Buenos Aires. Tresto believes by wearing the jersey from back to front, Argentina wins games.
“In the match we lost against Saudi Arabia I wore the blue and white shirt with the number 10, then against Mexico I put it back on and we won,” Tresto told AFP.
After losing 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in their World Cup opener, Argentina have found their rhythm again. The Argentina national team’s play is improving with each match as they string together five straight victories.
“Since then I have always worn it from back to front and we have never stopped winning. When it works you can never break superstitions, this is football,” added Tresto.
Tresto will do the same tonight when Argentina take on defending champions France in the World Cup final in Doha. He hopes Argentina can lift the trophy for the third time in their history.
In the house of the designer Graciela Castro (58) in Almagro, Buenos Aires – home of Pope Francis’ San Lorenzo football team – every ritual is rigorously observed. He wore the same pants and shirt and didn’t go to the bathroom during the match.
“The same pants, the same shirt, I don’t go to the toilet during the match and, of course, I mock my opponents with subtlety, because they are French,” he said with a mischievous smile.
Alma Mauri (15), a high school student from Avellaneda admitted that she wears the same Argentine shirt that hasn’t been washed since the second game and put all the World Cup statuettes on the table.
Guillermo Martinez also did the same. Martinez’s ritual also involves great precision.
“I sat cross-legged with my feet towards the opponent’s goal. In the second half, I crossed my legs the other way around,” he said.
His partner, Monica Gomez, kept the Saint Expeditus stamp, a photo of her daughter and an autograph Maradona precious.
