Russia’s energy giant Gazprom will suspend gas exports to the Dutch company GazTera tomorrow, in which the government in The Hague has a major stake. This was reported by world agencies, citing a statement by the Dutch gas trader.
Gazprom will not deliver 2 billion cubic meters of gas agreed for the period May 31-September 30, GazTera reported. The Russian monopolist points out the refusal of the Dutch to pay for Russian gas supplies in rubles as the reason for the suspension of supplies, DPA and BTA reported. GazTera’s contract with Gazprom expires on October 1st.
The company has repeatedly called on Gazprom to adhere to the agreed payment structure and delivery obligations, unfortunately to no avail, GazTera said. However, according to the company, the suspension of gas from Russia will not affect consumers, as there is already gas purchased from other suppliers.
“Gazprom’s decision will have no effect on the real gas supply of Dutch households,” climate and energy minister Rob Yetten was quoted as saying by AFP.
