Russia impose sanctions on the Prime Minister Japan, Fumio Kishida, and 62 other Sakura Country residents. The move was taken in retaliation for Japan’s sanctions against Russia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it was imposing sanctions because the Japanese government launched an anti-Russian campaign in the midst of their attack on Ukraine.
“The government of Fumio Kishida launched an unprecedented anti-Russian campaign, allowing unacceptable rhetoric against the Russian Federation, including slander and direct threats,” the statement said. AFP.
The Russian Foreign Ministry then continued, “This is echoed by public figures, experts, representatives of the Japanese media, who are completely influenced by the West’s attitude towards our country.”
According to a Reuters report, Japanese officials affected by the sanctions include Kishida, Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, and Kishida’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, Hirokazu Matsuno.
With these sanctions, individuals who are targeted will be banned from entering Russia indefinitely.
Russia accused the officials of taking practical steps to destroy good neighborly relations, as well as damage Russia’s economy and international honor.
Japan has already imposed sanctions on Russia. The sanctions include a ban on chip exports to Russia, restrictions on transactions between the two countries, and the freezing of assets of President Vladimir Putin’s two children, namely Mariya Vorontsova and Katerina Tikhonova.
Not only Japan, a number of Western countries have also flooded Russia with sanctions. The West even expelled Russian banks from the financial system of the Society Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).
SWIFT is a system that connects thousands of world’s financial institutions, so that banks can transact safely.
A number of global brands have also closed their businesses and operations in the land of the Red Bear Land. They include Apple Inc, McDonald’s, IKEA, and H&M.
