At the same time, the classification of wines protected by a geographical name has changed, which, according to Russian regulations, applies only to products made in Russia.

Thus, the term “champagne” can only be used for Russian wines.

World producers have already reacted to changes in Russian regulations. Moet Chandon, one of the world’s largest producers of French champagnes, has announced that it will end deliveries to Russia.

According to the RBK website, Russia imports about 50 million liters of sparkling and champagne wines annually, of which 13 percent it’s champagne from France.
