In a surprising turn of events, forgotten and abandoned cards are making a comeback in the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game. These cards, known as the “Memento” series, are set to receive new and powerful support in the upcoming set.
Among the new additions to the Memento series are three Quarter Century Secret Rare cards. These rare cards include Meigai Goryuu – Momentolal Tecutlica, Memento Horn Dragon, and Memento Seahorse. Each of these cards brings unique effects and abilities to the table, making them a force to be reckoned with.
Meigai Goryuu – Momentolal Tecutlica, also known as the Netherskull Dragon, is a Level 11 EARTH Wyrm monster with an impressive ATK and DEF of 5000. This monster cannot be Normal Summoned or Set and must be Special Summoned by shuffling 5 other “Memento” monsters with different names from your hand and/or graveyard into the deck or extra deck. If you control no other monsters, this card can attack all of your opponent’s monsters once each. Additionally, once per turn, if your opponent activates a card or effect, you can Special Summon 1 “Memento” monster from your hand or graveyard.
Memento Horn Dragon is a Level 8 DARK Dragon monster with an ATK of 2850 and DEF of 2350. This card can be Special Summoned from your hand if you have 3 or more “Memento” monsters with different names in your graveyard. If this card on the field is destroyed by a card effect, you can target 3 face-up cards on the field, including at least 1 “Memento” card you control, and destroy them.
Memento Seahorse, also known as Memento Tatsunootoshigo, is a Level 5 EARTH Beast monster with an ATK of 1350 and DEF of 1600. If you control no face-up monsters other than “Memento” monsters, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. During your Main Phase, you can destroy 1 “Memento” monster you control and, if you do, send any number of “Memento” monsters with different names from your deck to the graveyard whose total Levels are equal to or lower than the destroyed monster’s original Level.
In addition to these monsters, the Memento series also includes Memento Anwitch, Memento Mace, and Memento Goblin. These cards bring their own unique effects and abilities to the table, further enhancing the power of the Memento archetype.
To support the Memento series, a new field spell card called Meigaifu – Mementolan has been introduced. This card prevents your opponent from activating Spell/Trap cards when your “Memento” monster battles. Additionally, if a monster you control is destroyed by battle or card effect, you can Special Summon a “Memento” monster with a lower Level from your hand or graveyard. The field spell also allows you to target a “Memento” Spell/Trap in your graveyard during your End Phase and set it.
To further enhance the Memento strategy, two new quick-play spell cards have been introduced. Memento Bone Party allows you to destroy a “Memento” monster in your hand or face-up field and, if you do, Special Summon a “Memento” monster with a different name from your deck. Memento Bone Back, on the other hand, allows you to Special Summon Momentolal Tecutlica, the Netherskull Dragon from your hand or deck if a face-up “Memento” monster you control leaves the field. Additionally, if your opponent moves a “Memento” monster from your graveyard while this card is in your graveyard, you can banish it to Special Summon as many “Memento” monsters with different names as possible from your hand and/or deck.
To round out the support for the Memento series, two new trap cards have been introduced. Memento Fracture Dance allows you to destroy a card on the field and, if you control Momentolal Tecutlica, the Netherskull Dragon, you can destroy an additional card. Memento Cranium Burst forces your opponent’s monsters to attack your “Memento” monsters with the highest ATK, if able. Additionally, when your opponent activates a monster effect on the field, you can target Momentolal Tecutlica, the Netherskull Dragon to negate that effect.
With the introduction of these new cards, the Memento series is set to become a formidable force in the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game. Players will need to be prepared for the revenge of the cards they forgot and everything they left on the roadside.
