Al-Marsad Newspaper: Sources revealed that the negotiations that took place in Cairo for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip failed to achieve progress.
According to Reuters, the sources explained that Israel and Hamas did not agree to many of the solutions provided by the mediators.
The sources reported that The most obvious points of disagreement between Israel and Hamas are as follows:
1. Philadelphia Axis
Among the main obstacles in the negotiations is Israel’s presence in the Philadelphia axis, a narrow strip of land 14.5 kilometers long on the southern border of the Gaza Strip with Egypt.
An Egyptian source said that the mediators proposed several alternatives for the presence of Israeli forces on the Philadelphia axis, but neither side accepted any of them.
2. Pass Netzarim
This passage divides the Gaza Strip in two halves, while it goes through the middle, and the Israeli forces are stationed there, which Israel refuses to remove from it.
3. Number of detainees
The sources said that Israel had also expressed doubts about the number of detainees that Hamas wants to be released, and also wants them to leave Gaza if they are released.
4. The Study of the Palestinians
Hamas said Israel has set other new conditions, including screening displaced Palestinians as they return to the more populated northern enclave, when the truce begins.
