After the exterior, the cockpit of the new MINI Cooper (J01) is also revealed in two short videos: the teaser video that autoblog.com was leaked, apparently shows the start sequence after boarding and also answers almost all open questions about the design of the interior. As expected, the dashboard is dominated by a large, circular infotainment display in a nod to the original Center Speedo. On it we see an emphatically colorful scene for the construction of the navigation system, in which the actual user interface is built up in a playful way from jumping dots. The narrow black edge of the round display, which can be filled with content almost over its entire surface, is remarkable.
Below the round display we see a small control panel with a few physical buttons and switches, including, in addition to the start button, primarily air conditioning functions and the driver and passenger easily accessible button for the hazard warning system. The lighting is also likely to play a key role in the live impression on board the new MINI Cooper, because to all appearances the dashboard in front of the driver and front passenger is partially transilluminated, allowing for a special form of individualization – of course we can assume with MINI that that the colors used here can be adjusted very freely and also change depending on the active driving mode.
Just like the rims, the new steering wheel design was officially unveiled some time ago. Here, too, the British are obviously taking a path of evolution. A short morph video with a direct transition from the cockpit of the original Mini to the new design for J01 & Co. shows how much the new cockpit sees itself as a modern interpretation of the typical style that has been tried and tested over decades:
The main technical data of the new electric MINI, which will of course share the cockpit with the conventionally powered variants, have been known for months. Accordingly, there will initially be the variants MINI Cooper E with 181 hp and Cooper SE with 215 hp. The weaker of the two small cars has a 40 kWh battery and offers around 320 kilometers WLTP range, the more powerful Cooper SE has a 54 kWh battery on board and covers 386 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.
