Wirecard is probably the case of his life: For years, the business journalist Dan McCrum suspected that something was not kosher in the business model of the rapidly growing German payment service provider. Whistleblowers supplied him with documents in 2019, and the company crashed in 2020. The shock was not only great in Germany: Wirecard CEO Markus Braun and his board colleague Jan Marsalek were also well connected in Austria, after all both were native Viennese. While Braun knocked on Neos and ÖVP, Marsalek was more on the road with the FPÖ.
