Revealed! This is the trigger for China to order residents to stockpile food

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia China’s Ministry of Commerce on Monday, (11/1/2021), requested that residents to start hoarding materials for daily needs. Residents are asked to prepare supplies of basic and emergency necessities of life.

“We ask families to stock up on a number of daily necessities needed to meet daily life and emergencies,” the government’s official website said.

Not only that, the Ministry of Commerce also advised residents not only for this winter, China asked residents to stock up on food until spring. This suddenly created a wave of panic in the Chinese media. A number of netizens speculated about what happened.

“The government didn’t even tell us to stockpile things when the Covid outbreak broke out in early 2020,” wrote one Weibo user in response to the news.

“Perhaps the authorities are reminding people that they may not be able to afford vegetables this winter,” said another.

In fact, this order itself is not without reason. This was taken with several considerations regarding the problems that are currently being experienced by the Bamboo Curtain Country such as bad weather, lack of energy, and restrictions due to the spike in Covid-19.

Previously, the average price of food, especially vegetables, jumped 39.8% since September. This was due to crop failure caused by heavy rains that flooded the vegetable fields.

From September to early October, heavy rains occurred in most of northern China. Most flooded the largest vegetable-producing province in Shandong.

Meanwhile, lockdown measures are also being promoted in several provinces that are experiencing a spike in Covid-19. So far, The Bamboo Curtain country has also implemented lockdown measures in the cities of Heihe, Lanzhou, and Eijin. In addition to the three cities, lockdowns that are local or per housing complex have also been carried out in the Changping district, northwest of Beijing.

On Wednesday (11/3/2021), China reported a new record daily addition of 93 cases. This spike in new cases driven by Varian Delta spread from abroad. In addition, there are also several Covid clusters associated with a group of tourists from Shanghai who went on a trip to several areas in the provinces of Gansu and Inner Mongolia.

Compiling Covid-19 data from Worldometers, Asia’s largest country has recorded 97,423 cases of infection accompanied by 4,636 deaths since the outbreak first appeared in the city of Wuhan.
