Tens of thousands of drivers GrabBike in Thailand is threatened with unemployment. This is because GrabThailand is following up on a request from the local Department of Land Transportation (DLT).
Recently, GrabThailand convey information that within 30 days, his party will remove drivers whose vehicles are not registered as public transportation from the application service. The deadline falls on July 15, 2022.
Quoted from the Bangkok Post page, Monday (27/6/2022), Executive Director of GrabThailand, Worachat Luxkanalode said, this will certainly affect tens of thousands of driver partners.
“If state agencies fail to provide assistance to tens of thousands of drivers GrabBike in Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, these drivers will be left in dire straits without income to feed their families,” he said.
Therefore, Grab feels the need to follow up on this DLT request, by encouraging drivers GrabBike to have a Driving Permit (SIM) for public transport and motorcycles so that they are registered. Furthermore, drivers are also required to provide services only in areas that are registered with DLT, even at the same rate in accordance with the DLT provisions.
This will affect hundreds of thousands of regular passengers, who will have more limited transportation options,” Worachat said.
For the future, said Worachat, his party will meet again with DLT this week. GrabThailand will ask it to consider ways to reduce the likelihood of the worst occurring.
