SEOUL, KOMPAS.TV The decision of a North Korean citizen who previously defected to South Korea (South Korea), then returned to his home country, was revealed. The man is said to have had a difficult life in South Korea since his arrival more than a year ago.

The day before fleeing South Korea, the man reportedly threw away all his belongings.

“He took out his mattress and bedding and threw them in the trash that morning. It’s strange, because the objects are still new,” said a neighbor as quoted by the news agency Yonhap.

“I thought about asking him to give it to us, but in the end it didn’t happen, because we never spoke to each other,” added the neighbor.

On Saturday (1/1/2022), the unidentified man reportedly crossed across the heavily fortified demilitarized zone that has separated North and South Korea since the end of the 1950-1953 Korean War.

Financial Troubles in South Korea

The defector, in his 30s, made the perilous journey back to North Korea after failing to struggle with his difficult life in South Korea.

North Korea has not commented on the actions of the man, one of about 30 North Korean defectors who returned home after defecting to South Korea in the past decade.

However, launching The Guardian On Tuesday (4/1), North Korea admitted it had received a message from the South Korean military about the man’s flight.

A South Korean military officer confirmed that the man appeared to have experienced financial difficulties during his stay in South Korea.
