Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – China intervened to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the Ukraine crisis should be resolved through dialogue and negotiations with Russia. He called on the United States, NATO and the European Union to get involved in the deliberations.
It is known that China has close relations with Russia. Even so, the war in Ukraine left China in a complex position. The Bamboo Curtain nation needs to balance a close strategic partnership with Moscow through seemingly contradictory policies in support of the country’s sovereignty. China is also in no rush to help Russia after its economy was criticized by sanctions from around the world.
Economists say that China’s stance on Russia is very limited. Analysts also said Chinese banks and companies fear secondary sanctions if they deal with Russian counterparts.
Meanwhile US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed calls that Moscow would pay a high price for a planned, unwarranted and unjustified war in Ukraine.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said “the world is watching to see which country stands up for the basic principles of freedom, self-determination and sovereignty.
