Bruno Fernandes reveals the reasons Cristiano Ronaldo kicked out Erik Ten Hag from the squad Manchester United.
Ronaldo was more often a substitute player for MU in the Ten Hag era. The Portuguese player has finally decided to leave Old Trafford before the 2022 World Cup.
Ronaldo and Ten Hag’s relationship then soured. In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo admitted that he was annoyed with Ten Hag because he thought the Dutch coach did not respect him.
Fernandes said Ten Hag was the type of coach who didn’t care about big name players. Ten Hag, said Fernandes, only fielded players who wanted to obey his words. That’s why Ronaldo rarely plays Ten Hag.
“Since Eric [Ten Hag] the first time he came and we did tours and training sessions, he was very demanding. He demands a lot from players, and players have to do it, otherwise he won’t play,” Fernandes was quoted as saying Manchester Evening News.
“If a big player doesn’t do what he wants, he will take him out. He did it many times. He did it to Cristiano [Ronaldo]he did it with Jadon [Sancho]Marcus [Rashford] too,” said Fernandes.
Fernandes then recounted the moment when Rashford was benched by Ten Hag for MU against Wolverhampton Wanderers, last December 31. Fernandes was surprised Rashford was benched because of a mistake he made in the previous game.
“We were all like ‘wow’, he did [Rashford] our main player and we need him. So he demands something from Rashford, to be consistent in every way. Not only in your game, in your goals and performance, but also off the pitch,” Fernandes said.
In the match against Wolves, Rashford came on in the second half and scored a 1-0 MU win.
