A video showing 3 elementary school children hanging from the ‘flying basket‘for the sake of crossing the viral river on social media. The three boys made ‘flying basket‘It’s like a flying fox.
The river crossed by the three students is Sungai Siantan, Kuntu, in Kampar Kiri, Riau. In the 29 -second video viewed detik.com, Thursday (10/6), three elementary school students in red and white uniforms pulled a round basket.
The rattan basket was tied to a crossing rope that ran from one side to the other of the river. The three elementary school students then set the position to cross. After adjusting their positions, the trio swung the rattan and slid across the river.
The village head of Kuntu, Asril, revealed the function of the ‘flying basket’. The rattan basket was actually used to move palm fruit.
“It’s in the plantation area, it’s a place for palm oil cultivation,” said the Kuntu village head, Asril, to detik.com, Thursday (10/6/2021).
Asril said none of his villagers live in the area. He said the children who crossed the river in the ‘flying basket’ were the children of plantation employees who were residents of another village.
“Those are the employees’ children, the workers in the plantation. I’m not clear on the numbers, because the workers there are not our citizens,” said Asril.
There’s Another Way, But It’s Far
Actually, these students do not have to cross the river to go to school. Because, there is another access to school. It’s just that the distance is far enough that the boys choose to cross with the ‘flying basket’ to save time.
“From his road there is Jalan KUD, but the difference is too far. From his garden, he crosses on a Honda (motorcycle) directly to school. They live not far from the river,” he said.
“There are officers to cross the oil palm fruit. The land is 100 hectares of private property, all fruit comes out of it, sometimes residents also pass there to go fishing. Security issues, comfort is a plantation business,” he said.
