The Hwasong-12 missile is the most powerful weapon the Kim Jong-un regime has tested since the start of this year. It is also the first to be tested since 2017.
South Korea’s military previously said it detected a North Korean medium-range ballistic missile launch on Sunday, Pyongyang’s seventh weapons test so far in January 2022.
North Korea had never conducted so many missile tests in the previous calendar month.

Last week, Kim Jong-un’s ruling regime in North Korea threatened to abandon a nearly five-year self-imposed moratorium on testing nuclear weapons and long-range missiles.
Kim Jong-un’s government blamed the hostile policies of the United States (US), which forced him to increase military capabilities.
“The evaluation test of the medium-range and long-range ballistic missiles of the Hwasong-12 type was carried out on Sunday,” wrote Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea’s state media, was quoted as saying AFP, Monday (31/1/2022).
“The test confirms the accuracy, safety and effectiveness of the operation of the Hwasong-12 type weapon system under production.” KCNA.
KCNA said the test was carried out using the highest angle launch system to ensure the safety of neighboring countries, and the warhead carried a camera that took photos while in space. –
