Initially, Shin Tae-yong was appointed as the coach of the Indonesian national team. He has the status of coach of the Indonesian national team, as well as supervising Indonesian National team U-23 and U-19.

For the U-19 Indonesian National Team, the position of coach was entrusted to Gong Oh-kyun. In addition to coaching the U-19 Indonesian national team, Gong Oh-kyun also helped Shin Tae-yong gush the senior Indonesian national team.

In mid-2020, the senior Indonesian national team will not undergo competitive matches due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Indonesian national team has only held training camps a few times and this is where Gong Oh-kyun can assess Indonesian players.

“I had a short time dealing with young Indonesian players. The first impression I got was that the players were a bit distant, difficult to approach and not friendly. Even in training sessions, Indonesian players have difficulty adapting,” said Gong Oh-kyun in a podcast on Vietnamese media, Zing News.

“Indonesian national team players do not have a good enough spirit. Everything was different when I moved to Vietnam. I see Vietnamese players are more determined, work hard and show a progressive attitude like Korean players. That’s what excites me,” continued Gong Oh-kyun.
