“Revamped Chat View: Threema 5.0 Gets a Comprehensive Update”

Die Messenger-App threema presents itself optically overhauled in version 5.0. With the update, the developers want to refresh the previously slightly outdated design of their chat view and delight app users with a “fresh and modern look”.

However, the associated changes also extend under the hood, which means that not only does the chat view look more modern, but there should also be significant improvements in loading times. According to the developers, the deposited program code was completely rewritten.

Here is the overview provided by the Threema team of the improvements that come with version 5.0 of their app:

• The title bar is now always visible and shows the contact’s name, profile picture, trust level and a call button. For group chats, the title bar contains the name, the group picture and the group members.
• Voice messages can be played directly in the chat. If another voice message follows, it will be played automatically after the first.
• If you search for a keyword in the chat, all results are now displayed in a clear list.
• “Load previous messages” when scrolling in chat history is history: Scrolling up now automatically loads the messages.
• The time stamp and the status of a message are now displayed within the speech bubble. If several messages follow one another in immediate succession, the corresponding speech bubbles are grouped.
• Media and files can now also be accessed while they are still being sent.
• The message details can now be called up by swiping to the left.
• In group messages, the names of the members are shown in different colors.
• Text formatting is already displayed correctly in the text input field.
• By tapping on the camera symbol next to the text entry field, a photo can be taken and sent directly.
