The heads of the ministries of finance and central banks of the G20 countries could not reach an agreement on the wording condemning the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine in the final communiqué of the meeting in Bangalore (India). Because of this, countries will not make a joint statement following the summit. This was reported Reuters with reference to sources.
According to Reuters, the US and its G7 allies are insisting that the final statement include a clause condemning Russia’s military operation. At the same time, Russia and China opposed this. India, in turn, proposed using the option chosen by the heads of the G20 countries at the Bali summit in November 2022. Recall that at that time in the communiqué the countries condemned the hostilities, but added that there are other points of view on this conflict.
Negotiations over the content of the communiqué were difficult, according to a Reuters source. Other interlocutors of the agency said that most likely India will make a statement following the results of the summit as the host country.
Reuters previously wrote that during its G20 presidency in 2023, India does not plan to discuss additional restrictions against Russia, nor use its status to promote them. According to the agency, during the meeting in Bangalore, India was presented with a plan to focus on the macroeconomic consequences of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
