Astra Zeneca has reduced its projected supply of the covid-19 vaccine to the EU in the first quarter of the year by about 30 million doses. That’s a third of her contractual obligations, down 25 percent from last month’s promises, Reuters reported, citing a document it read.
This reduction is another blow to European vaccination plans, which have already been delayed due to repeated delays in deliveries and delays in the vaccination campaign itself in some countries, BTA reports.
Borissov stops vaccination with Astra Zeneca
The Astra Zeneca document, quoted by Reuters, was shared with European officials and dates back to March 10. It shows that the company now expects to deliver 30.1 million doses of its vaccine by the end of March and another 20 million doses in April.
On February 25, Astra Zeneca chief Pascal Sorio told the European Parliament that the company would try to deliver 40 million doses by the end of March.
Borissov to the European leaders: We must be as firm as possible
The document shows that as of February 24, the company estimated its deliveries at 34 million doses for the EU in the period January-March, which is well below the agreed target of 90 million doses.

The new cut followed a decision last week by Italy and the EC to block the supply of Astra Zeneca vaccines from Italy to Australia.
A company spokesman declined to comment on Reuters.
