119 scientists from 18 countries say these containers do not increase the risk of transmitting the virus.
According to the scientific evidence currently available, the virus is transmitted mainly through infected aerosolized droplets, more than through contaminated surfaces.
Researchers still advise consumers to thoroughly wash their reusable containers with hot water and soap.
Several environmentalists accuse the plastics industry of taking advantage of the situation to promote single-use products whose use was in decline before the pandemic.
