Retzbacher Jonas Babinsky becomes Bavarian champion over 400 meters

The changeable weather did not harm the performance of the athletes from Lower Franconia at the Bavarian Athletics Championships in Erding. They were fit to the point and performed at their best. With a championship title for Jonas Babinsky (U 20) from LG Main-Spessart over 400 meters, five silver and four bronze medals, they achieved an impressive result.

For Babinsky from Retzbach, the 50.18 seconds not only represented a personal best, but at the same time he was the only Main Franconian to undercut the qualification standard for the German Youth Championships in Rostock at the end of July. The 18-year-old was also third in the 200 meters in 23.09 seconds.

Silver over 1500 meters was won by David Scheller (U 16, TG Würzburg), who is still in the school class. At his first start at this distance, the 15-year-old stunned his older competitors with a long sprint and took the lead after 1000 meters. In the end he was defeated by Tobias Tent from Munich by two hundredths of a second.

Seasons of LG and LAZ in a duel

There was a good yield for the Main Franconia in the relay competitions. The sprint women of the LG Main-Spessart (Sina Stein, Lena Schröder, Maria Heuft and Theresa Schalling) finished second over four 100 meters in 48.10 seconds and met the norm for the German championships next year.

The LG Main-Spessart and LAZ Kreis Würzburg fought a duel with the U-18 squadrons over four times 400 meters. Lars Partes, Jonathan Willert, Tim Weinand and Nils Groetsch (LG) finished second in 45.35 seconds, Lorenz Stengritt, Fabian Escher, Jakob Müller and Lennard Schmidt (LAZ) finished third in 46.47 seconds. Willert (U 18) then won his second silver medal in the high jump.

Lena Schröder (LG Main-Spessart) jumped in the women’s long jump in the fourth attempt to 5.84 meters. It was a new personal best for her. Behind the six-meter jumper Isabel Mayer (Regensburg), she displaced her team colleague Anna-Lena Obermaier by one centimeter from second place. Bit by bit, it is also approaching a width of six meters. She also proved her talent over the 100 meter hurdles in 14.79 seconds, with which she just barely missed another medal in fourth.

Just past the medals

On the middle sections, Elias Kriester (U 20, LG Main-Spessart) won the bronze medal over 800 meters and Lennart Schmidt (U 18, LAZ Kreis Würzburg) over 400 meters.
