After nearly two years since the release of the PlayStation 5 version, the roguelite action Returnal has also taken a new look at the PC. While the game gets high marks in reviews (at Metacritic with the PC version currently boasting a rating of 87%), so from the point of view of active players, the situation for Sony and developers from the Housemarque studio does not sound so positive. Data from Steam shows that the game at one time at most 6691 players played.
When compared to other Sony exclusives that have found their way to PCs recently, this number is “only” enough for penultimate seventh place. Returnal thus left behind only the platformer Sackboy: A Big Adventure. For example, from the point of view of ratings, Days Gone, received more coldly, had over 27 thousand players playing on Steam at one time. In the list of the highest-grossing games on Steam, Returnal was then placed only in the third ten.
However, it is necessary to think that the PC version of Returnal is currently facing great competition from new titles, which many PC gamers could simply prefer. In addition to Hogwarts Legacy, there is, for example, the action RPG Wild Hearts, the shooter Atomic Heart or the strategy Company of Heroes 3 and The Settlers: New Allies. In addition, compared to purely mainstream titles such as God of War or Marvel’s Spider-Man, Returnal targets more hardcore players with its mechanics and difficulty.
