Yesterday, 7:25 p.m. – 8:15 p.m

A unique nature conservation project is entering its hot phase: Nectophrynoides asperginis, the rare Kihansi spray toad, is to be released back into its native ecosystem in Tanzania after successful breeding in the Bronx Zoo. For the first time ever, an amphibian species that is extinct in the wild is being returned to its original habitat – a milestone for international animal conservation that takes zoo biologists deep into the African wilderness. Also in this episode: Test giraffe Utu gets up close and personal with a new construction behind the scenes in the enclosure and a special flight tunnel is designed to protect birds from colliding with window glass.
