The DOSB tried to play for time on the Russia question. After a decision by the World Fencing Federation, this tactic is obsolete. German sport must now position itself – the consequences could be serious.

Recently, the leaders of German sport have wriggled quite a bit when it came to the thorny question of whether Russian athletes would be allowed to take part in international competitions again. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) explained that “the time has not yet come,” but there was no clear no, but a reference to the international discussion and allegedly strict criteria that one would like if the athletes were admitted . Maneuvering and tactics are disciplines in which German sports officials win gold almost as often as local tobogganists.
