Retrospective Photo Exhibition of Gunāras Bindas at Daugava Museum: Black and White Photography Collection

The Daugava Museum has opened a retrospective photo exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the photographer Gunāras Bindas, which consists of photographs taken between 1977 and the mid-2000s, when he worked at the Dole History Museum and participated in the expeditions along the banks of the Daugava.

Paula Grābēja of the Daugava Museum points out that the author himself has always highlighted the importance of black and white photography, which is why the exhibition is also dedicated to black and white photography: “The psychological portraits taken by G. Binde, which capture the inhabitants of the banks of the Daugava, should be highlighted in terms of plot. He is bound by details and atypical angles in all genres of photography, giving photography, which is documentary in nature, also a deep artistic value.”

Gunāras Binde’s collection of photo negatives and photographs is an essential part of the collection of the Daugava Museum, which together makes up about a fifth of the Daugava Museum’s collection of 56,316 items. The exhibition at the Daugava Museum can be viewed until April.
