In the beginning of the 2021 school year, the Galerie du 9e art is pleased to present a retrospective exhibition of the work of Cyril Pedrosa.
After having cut his teeth in the Disney studios, Cyril Pedrosa entered the world of comics in 1998 with Ring Circus and then became known thanks to a unique style that he renewed and adapted to each of his projects.
After Ring Circus and Shaolin Moussaka, produced with screenwriter David Chauvel, Cyril Pedrosa explores, alone, a new graphic language, at the same time as a more introspective story. Trois Ombres is a first consecration which earned him the Des Essentiels prize at the Angoulême Festival in 2008. With Portugal and Equinoxes, Cyril Pedrosa continues to explore the themes that are close to his heart: loneliness and uprooting, treated with great lightness. of your. In 2018, he published L’Âge d’Or, a medieval epic in two volumes, co-written by Roxane Moreil.
Cyril Pedrosa’s drawing evolves to adapt to the scenarios and universes of his comics, from the humorous feature of AutoBio in 2008 to the profusion of details in the medieval fresco that is L’Âge d’Or, ten years later. . Although known for his black and white boards, he is nonetheless a talented colourist. In the works Portugal and Equinoxes, Cyril Pedrosa emphasizes the sequencing of the chapters by different drawing techniques ranging from black and white sliced to a dazzling palette.
The success of his latest work, L’Âge d’Or, is accompanied by several exhibitions devoted to his work in Europe. This retrospective allows the public to (re) discover the journey of this multifaceted artist while awaiting the publication of his future projects.
